Solvent recovery from solvent-fine coal slurries by filtration and steam stripping

Dewatering of fine coal is a significant industrial challenge with economic and environmental implications. Due to the lack suitable dewatering technologies, particles are often discarded waste impoundments, leading substantial loss valuable natural resources while creating problems. The hydrophobic-hydrophilic separation (HHS) process unique solution this problem. In process, recyclable solvent used simultaneously remove inorganic impurities (ash) water from run-of-mine slurry. A small amount oil (or solvent) added slurry so that can spontaneously displace surface particles. spent subsequently recovered recycled in closed loop. Here, we report results obtained using two different solvents, i.e., pentane hexane, de-ash dewater ultrafine recover by filtration, followed steam stripping. Most be during filtration step at 20 psig N₂ 60 s time. residual left cake was then under conditions. showed concentration could reduced <1,400 ppm after 10 stripping 150°C 15 psig.
